Every trip we have taken so far now feels like a rehearsal for this one. Five weeks. Two countries. One five-year-old who had opinions about all of it. Four days in Paris, four weeks in Spain, and two more days in Paris before flying home. By far the longest holiday we have been on, and the longest Ayaansh has ever been away from everything he calls home.

At 9 months old, Maldives was Ayaansh’s first major holiday. While we had originally planned for a Maldives vacation as our baby moon, Covid had other plans for us and hence Maldives as a couple was in fact Maldives with a toddler!

Three things that have survived every trip we have taken with Ayaansh.
Book a kitchenette
We always look for an Airbnb or hotel with a kitchenette. It covers the tired days when you can't find a restaurant, the mornings you'd rather not go out, and the evenings when Ayaansh just wants Indian food. When you're worn out from sightseeing or still shaking off jet lag, being able to cook something simple in your room changes the whole day.
Carry something to make with
Colours, blank paper and activity books have earned their place in every bag we've packed. During free time, at meal times, and above all on flights. Sticker books and small cars work just as well. Ayaansh will stay with them for hours.
Pack for the hangry gap
Nuts and dry fruit bars for the stretch between meals, spare clothes for the spills, and whatever comfort item is currently non-negotiable. The comfort item matters more than it sounds. It's what settles him down for sleep in a strange room.
